I have recently bought Panasonic dbp-bd210. It was relatively easy to setup(relative!) The Blue ray player also worked fine. I setup the wireless wifi connection and updated the software. I then pressed "vierra" button on remote to try all the apps.
Netflix:
Netflix works as good on this player - as it does on my Wii.(It had marginally better quality , lesser buffering issue , however there is NO HD OPTION)
Youtube App: Its hard to use with remote. Also it does not seem to play HD videos(video seems
to be of lower quality). I also could not find some song that i can see on normal youtube(eg judas - lady gaga) So it seems that certain content is being blocked for Youtube app on TV(i.e. many content are available for Computer only).
DLNA: I was hoping to play my videos/photo wirelessly to my dvd player using DLNA .
I followed instructions at : http://blogs.msdn.com/b/e7/archive/2009/05/12/media-streaming-with-windows-7.aspx to enable my Window 7 to stream videos.
It did play my photo fine(also did slideshow from my PC).
I was able to play MTS(AVHCD) format shot using panasonic hdc-tm700 video as well as MPG files shot using Sony DCR-SR100. I dont know if Windows 7 was doing some conversion to enable this.
However the video quality was BAD. Also the video streaming was SLOW(kept on Buffering).
Also the DLNA kept on disconnecting easily. I am not sure whose fault it is. (Windows 7 or home router or this player).. I am guessing its NOT my router - as Netflix works fine.
It should not be Windows 7 as MPG is old (and short) format. I guess there
is something wrong with DLNA technology for video.(but its OK for picture).
Other Apps:
It also has "Hulu Plus" and "Amazon Prime" apps. But i did not try it as it looked like paid apps.
PanaSonic Market: There is a facility to install free new games or video(dailymotion)
from PanaSonic Market.
Format support on DVD(-R):
The specs says that if you use "DVD-R" then it supports AVHCD and MKV format.
I tried to copy pagste .mkv/.mts/.mpg files(which it never claimed it supported) - and it did not work. I however used Panasonic HDD burner which creates AVHCD
disk(panasonic tm700 camcorder) - and it worked fine. (it seems besides .mts
files - it also need certain extra files)
Remote: Horribly designed. You will keep on pressing home or vierra cast button
which are near forward and selection buttons.
Overall Impression: Its good for the price(due to panasonic matter). It could
easily have been lot better(remote and format support)
